Your Guide Beneath the Northern Lights
Hi there! My name is Marcel, I’m 36, and I’m based in Germany. For the past four years, I have been deeply immersed in the world of astrophotography—a journey that has taken me from the technical precision of Deep Sky imaging to the ethereal, breathtaking dance of the Aurora Borealis.
To me, astrophotography is about more than just chasing the perfect pixel. It is a fusion of technical skill, patience, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. Standing under the crystal-clear night sky in Swedish Lapland, the rest of the world fades away, and all that matters is that fleeting, magical moment when the lights begin to dance.
What to expect on this tour:
My photo tour in Lappland is all about sharing that fascination. I want to guide you through this incredible landscape and help you capture memories that last a lifetime. Whether you are just starting out with your camera or you are an experienced photographer, this tour is about community, sharing ideas, and soaking in the "Winter Magic" of Swedish Lapland.
I am thrilled to have you join me on this adventure, and I look forward to supporting you with my personal tips and tricks to ensure you head home with the shots of a lifetime!
Your Equipment Checklist for your Lappland Tour
To capture the "Winter Magic" of Abisko, preparation is key. Arctic conditions place specific demands on both your gear and yourself.
1. Camera Equipment
Camera: Mirrorless or DSLR with manual mode (M) and good high-ISO performance.
Fast Wide-Angle Lens: Aperture of f/2.8 or lower (e.g., 14mm, 16mm, or 24mm) to capture as much light as possible.
Sturdy Tripod: Essential for sharp long-exposure shots, even in windy conditions.
Remote Shutter Release: To avoid camera shake (or use your 2-second timer).
Memory Cards: High-capacity cards (bring at least one backup).
2. Power & Tech
Batteries: Bring at least 3–4 spare batteries. The cold drains them rapidly!
Battery Management: Always keep spare batteries close to your body (in an inside pocket), never in your camera bag.
Microfiber Cloth: To clear front lenses of frost or condensation.
3. Your Comfort (The "Must-Haves" in the Arctic!)
Headlamp with Red Light: To operate your gear in the dark without ruining your (or others') night vision.
Photography Gloves: Gloves with fold-back fingertips for precise camera control.
Layering System: Multiple layers of clothing (thermal base layer, insulation layer, windproof outer shell).
Warm Winter Boots: Well-insulated with thick soles to protect against the frozen ground.
Hand & Toe Warmers: Small heat pads for extra comfort.
Pro Tip: Avoid condensation! When moving from the cold outside into a warm room, leave your camera in its bag or a sealed plastic bag so it can gradually adjust to room temperature.
